Iconic bayside venue The Local Taphouse re-opens its doors to live music

In a notable reversal of the recent trend for live music venues to close, one iconic bayside venue is doing the exact opposite.

Popular and award-winning Balaclava venue The Local Taphouse, part of the Stomping Ground Brewery Group, has re-introduced a regular live music program following a four-year hiatus, starting next Friday Nov 14 for an initial six-week season.

The season follows a special show by the legendary Adalita as part of the Balaclava Boogie festival at the weekend.

With a brief to allow its patrons to dance to a retro beat, the lineup is as follows:
Nov
14 Coco Chill
21 This Generation
28 Ezra Lee’s Boogie Men

Dec
5 Kim Volkman Blues Trio
12 Into Groove
19 Hornstars

Program curator, Craig Reardon has looked for variety and danceability when assembling the program.

“The venue team wanted a format that would both appeal to their existing patrons while attracting new ones”, he said.

“This lineup achieves that while providing a broad range of retro styles over the course of the six-week program.  Up one end of the scale we have the ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ vibe of Hornstars, while at the other the guitar-based rockers from local legend Kim Volkman and his Blues Trio.  Somewhere in the middle is the boogie-woogie of Ezra Lee’s Boogie Men.

“There is literally something for everyone over the course of the initial program”.

All shows will run from 9-12pm and are free of cover charge, though tables can be booked for all sessions.
