Gig success tip #10 – Leave them yelling for more!
The truth of the matter is, none of these tips for gig success mean anything unless your fundamental ‘product’ – your act, doesn’t cut it.
So we marketers can lead the horse to water all you like. But you have to make it drink. And want more.
That means putting your best foot forward every time you perform, and leave them yelling for more.
And that is unconditional on whether you have five punters or 5000.
Don’t blame your punters for your small audience
Sure, a larger crowd will motivate you more. But it’s not your punters’ fault if they aren’t in good company. They have done the right thing by turning up to your show so it’s important you recognize them for that and give them their money’s worth.
So do what successful acts do and play to a small crowd as if it’s a large crowd.
Those who attend will appreciate that and do the right thing by you in turn by telling others about your merits.
And therein lies the basis of all of your marketing efforts.
So make sure your act embraces not only a culture of excellent but of continuous improvement too.
Embrace constant and continuous improvement
Make sure your act is musically tight. Dress to impress. Ditch the engagement-killing (words and music) devices. Constantly replace your worst tunes with better ones. Practice and rehearse ad infinitum. Get genuine feedback from your punters and act on it. And then, finally make sure your marketing is hitting its marks.
Once you’ve done all this, you will find your audiences growing. Ideally to the point where you and your act can all make a decent living to sustain your music career.
Even without all the marketing these tips have outlined, your onstage performance will kickstart your marketing by creating all-important word of mouth.
Once you have achieved that, all the other marketing tactics simply support and enhance this asset to maximise your attendances.
In turn helping ensure your rock n roll (and other genre) dreams come through.
This is the final blog of this 10-part series. While it’s not exhaustive, following them will give you an excellent chance of maximising the size of your audience and earning that next gig. Thank you for reading this and other tips and by all means reach out if you need further info.
