Question: My son is our web developer. he isn't formally trained but has done a great job so far. he can't see why we should employ a pro SEO guy because he has and I have ) researched as much as we can and after H1 optimisation, and content maximisation, and the everyday availabel tips found on the web in hundreds of sites.. it seems to come down to active incoming links. So he is objecting to me hiring a pro SEO guy. I have to agree that many i look at have no more data than us. So what does a pro SEO guy have that makes him/her a reality choice? I's like to hear a pro's viewpoint.
BTW: like your new site! Answer:
Thanks Ian
Firstly just to clarify where we sit in the industry, we consider ourselves web 'generalists' rather than an SEO 'specialist'. This is quite deliberate as there are lots of specialists out there and feedback from smaller business operators is that they really need generalists to guide them through the whole eBusiness maze, unlike a specialist who can only really advise on their particular turf.
So we are more like a medical 'GP' who is a first port of call for your web needs but can refer to / work with a specialist as required. But nine times out of ten our level of expertise is perfect for smaller businesses.
So speaking as a generalist, it appears your son is doing a pretty good job. As of today, you are number four on Google for 'ionised' water and number 14 for 'water filter'. That seems pretty good to me in a crowded market place.
If I were you I'd keep your son on the payroll and my bet is he'll improve as he learns more. However I think it worth supplementing with an Adwords presence which we could help with if required.
